New Brick Undercoat Plastering
If you have a new brick wall in your house as part of an extension or new dividing wall that needs a new coat of plaster, I can help.
I’ll begin with what’s known as a scratch coat, or render coat, which is a thin coat of sand and cement mix that is the base for the coat of plaster. It is also vital to ensure your new wall is waterproof inside.
Getting the thickness of the scratch coat right is important because we want the wall to begin absorbing the moisture from the layer of render to help it stick to the brickwork.
I have decades of experience in preparing new walls for plastering and know the right way to do it.
Top Coat / Skim Plastering
Once you have a base layer in place, you’ll need a top layer of plaster so that you can paint or wallpaper your new wall. The same is true if you have an old cracked wall that just needs a skim layer to flatten it out.
The top layer, or skim layer is applied with a hawk and trowel and is the skill that makes a plasterer. It is a skill that takes time and patience to master.

Ceiling Renewal / Replacement
If you have a cracked plaster ceiling, you’ll need to get it renewed as soon as possible. The last thing you want is something falling from the ceiling and hitting someone on the head.
The sooner you get it looked at the better, because the longer you leave it, the bigger the crack will get and a repair my become a replacement. I’m always available if you just need some advice.
If a repair or replacement ceiling is required, I can make it as easy as possible, with as little mess or inconvenience to you as possible. I’m a tidy worker and I always clean up after myself.
Dry-Lining
Plasterboard is now a very common material used in construction. Not only does it save time and money over traditional plastering, it also allows buildings to meet specific regulations regarding noise and fire protection, as well as thermal efficiency.
Another name for plasterboarding is dry-lining, this is due to the much cleaner process of getting that perfectly flat wall we’re aiming for.
With plasterboard, you can wallpaper or paint your wall a lot quicker than with traditionally plastered walls and also mould it around curved surfaces for a perfect finish.
Coving
Coving is the curved plaster mouldings that sit between your wall and your ceiling. They offer a decorative finish and can hide any cracks that may appear over time between your wall and ceiling.
I have been installing coving for decades and know how to ensure a perfectly even, uniformed look for the top of your walls.
I can install traditional, plain, concave coving as well as decorative mouldings, sometimes referred to as cornices.
Artex Covering
If you have an Artex wall, chances are you don’t like it… They are a left over from generations past that thought a bumpy wall was a great idea.
Thankfully, we have better taste now, and have reverted back to simple flat walls in our home. However, there are still some Artex walls out there…
